MADINAH, 17 February 2006 — A landlord found a unique way of forcing a tenant to pay up on the rent by turning his apartment into a prison cell, the daily Al-Watan reported. The tenant woke up to go to work only to discover that his door had been chained from the outside. He called for help, and neighbors called the police. The police couldn’t break the lock, so they called the fire department. The landlord showed up and released the man, but made his point: Pay the rent or your apartment becomes your prison. No charges were filed.
