TRIVANDRUM, 19 February 2006 — A move to bring back former Chief Minister K. Karunakaran to the Congress party has suffered s setback with a powerful section opposing it. “We sympathize with the senior leader, but you should not forget the fact that his exit brought back peace and unity in the party,” Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi said.
Karunakaran floated his own outfit and helped the opposition Left Democratic Front to sweep the recent civic and by-elections. However, the Communist Party of India-Marxist that leads the LDF decided last week to sever ties with his Democratic Indira Congress-Karunakaran, leaving little room for him to maneuver.
