ISLAMABAD, 19 February 2006 — Pakistan’s President Pervez Musharraf will embark on a six-day visit to China today.
Minister of Defense Production Habibullah Warriach, who will accompany Musharraf said,”We are expecting to sign fresh agreements with China in defense production to further strengthen our ties .”
He said so far we are cooperating with China in the fields of manufacturing of light grade weaponry, main battle tanks and their ammunition, armored personnel cars, close combat armored vehicles and development of multiple-role aircraft.
Musharraf will hold talks with his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao on issues of mutual interest including joint efforts to combat international terrorism, defense cooperation and reforms in the United Nations.
China has so far opposed the entry of Japan in the UN Security Council and has preferred India’s inclusion.
Foreign Office sources said, “This is an important issue which will figure in the talks between the two leaders.”
