JEDDAH, 8 March 2006 — Police have found a charred body in a dumpster located in south Jeddah. The Al-Nuzlatain Police Department, headed by Lt. Col. Muhammad Al-Johani, is currently investigating the apparent homicide along with a team of inspectors from the Criminal Investigation Department.

“Investigations are still under way. The cause of death has still not been determined. Forensic tests will determine the cause of death,” Al-Johani said. A police source said that the body had been identified as that of a “30-year-old Saudi” whose identity has not been released.

Residents of the neighborhood called police to the scene after noticing the fire in the dumpster.

South Jeddah is an area which has a high crime rate. It has been the area most often targeted by security forces during their recent raids. Large numbers of people who are in the Kingdom illegally live in south Jeddah.
