DHAKA, 11 March 2006 — The arrested chief of the outlawed Jamatul Mujahedeen Bangladesh (JMB) has admitted to masterminding a string of deadly blasts across the country that killed 30 people, a senior officer of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) force said yesterday.
Shaikh Abdur Rahman, head of JMB, which has been waging a bloody campaign for the imposition of Shariah laws, surrendered to police after a 33-hour siege on March 2.
Rahman was wanted in connection with a wave of blasts last August 17 when more than 400 small devices exploded almost simultaneously, as well as a series of subsequent attacks.
