MAKKAH, 11 March 2006 — Undercover officers busted a Makkah man for posing as a police officer and robbing locals, the daily Al-Watan reported yesterday. Police began hunting for the suspect after receiving numerous reports of citizens complaining of being robbed by a uniformed police officer. Undercover officers finally spotted the counterfeit cop and arrested him after a small foot chase. After a background check, the suspect was charged with several other unrelated and unspecified charges.
SR6 Million for Rural Road Projects
MADINAH, 11 March 2006 — Municipal and Rural Affairs Minister Prince Miteb signed a SR6-million contract with a national company to build rural roads, the daily Al-Madinah reported yesterday. The name of the contract winner was not disclosed in the report. Meanwhile, the General Directorate of Girls’ Education in Al-Ahsa has allocated a budget of SR191 million to establish 28 new educational projects for girls around the region, according to Al-Watan daily. They have also set SR16 million for maintenance of existing schools. The newspaper said the directorate had bought six plots of land at a cost of SR25.8 million.
Maid’s Body Found in Madinah Compound
MADINAH, 11 March 2006 — The body of an Indonesian maid was found in the Aziziyah neighborhood here, the daily Al-Watan reported yesterday. The police have deemed the death a suicide. According to the results of the investigation, the maid jumped from a third-story window in a residential compound. The family found the body the following morning.
