JEDDAH, 28 March 2006 — Minister of Higher Education Khaled Al-Angari headed a meeting yesterday of the Council of Higher Education, which discussed the opening of three new colleges in different parts of the Kingdom.
The council met in Riyadh to discuss issues related to expanding the country’s higher education system. Topping the agenda was the opening of a college of medicine in Al-Jouf and two community colleges in Al-Quwaieyah and Bisha.
Mohamed Al-Saleh, secretary-general of the council, told Arab News that studies were being conducted under the supervision of the ministries of labor and civil services for expanding the Kingdom’s universities in order to match the new programs with the needs of the job market.
“The council launched the three new colleges in accordance with the country’s development plan,” said Al-Saleh. “We surely have in mind the different educational needs for different regions.”
The college of medicine in Al-Jouf will be part of a new university, which was established under a government directive in June 2004.
