JEDDAH, 22 February 2007 — Al-Ahli and Al-Shabab advanced to the quarterfinals of Crown Prince Cup football competition with decisive victories against separate opponents last night.

Ahli defeated hosts Al-Riyadh of Riyadh 3-1 at Prince Faisal ibn Fahd Stadium. Shabab did not find any difficulty crushing Rabie of Jeddah, a Saudi league second division team, 5-0 at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium in Jeddah.

In Riyadh Ahli were better organized than Riyadh, who came from the first division of the Saudi league. Haykal Gamamdeya opened the account for Ahli in the 13th minute when he converted a nice pass he received in the penalty box. Abdullah Al-Dawood equalized for Riyadh in the 53rd minute with a header. Ahli then imposed themselves in the game to score the second and third goals within one minute of each other. Caio blasted home the second goal in the 85th minute and Tayseer Al-Jasim scored in 86th minute.

Al-Nasr exited the competion after losing against Al-Faisali in penalty shootout 5-4. Today’s matches send Al-Najran against Al-Qadisiya in Najran and Al-Hilal against Wehda in Riyadh in a potentially explosive match.
