JEDDAH, 26 February 2007 — Al-Ittifaq defeated Al-Khaleej 2-1 yesterday in Dammam to complete the teams to qualify for the quarterfinals in the Crown Prince Cup football tournament.
The match was slow-paced for the better part of the action although Ittifaq held the slight edge over Khaleej.
Khaleej were first to score in the 13th minute courtesy of Hasan Al-Raheb who pounced on a defender’s mistake. Ittifaq equalized in the 60th minute from a nice shot by Abdul Rahman. Ittifaq then scored their second goal and eventual winner when the goalkeeper touched but failed to stop the ball from going in the back of the net. The teams spent the rest of the evening swapping attacks and counter attacks. Ittifaq will face Shabab on Friday in Riyadh and Hilal will face Hazem on the same day in Riyadh. On Saturday, Ittihad will host Najran in Jeddah and on Sunday Ahli will host Al-Faisali in Jeddah.
