JEDDAH, 9 March 2007 — After brief respite to give way to the Crown Prince Cup competition the Saudi Football League resumed yesterday with Wehda beating Al-Ittifaq 2-1 in Makkah and Al-Ittihad whipping Al-Khaleej 8-2 in a one-sided match in Dammam.
In Makkah, Ittifaq took the early lead in the 12th minute through Abdul Rahman Al-Qahtani. Essa Al-Muhayyani equalized for Wehda in the 29th minute from a nice shot inside the penalty box. Vladimir of Wehda then scored the winning goal after he received a nice pass from Al-Khaibari inside the penalty box, putting the ball in the back of the net.
With the result of this match, Wehda jumped to first position with 39 points while Hilal dropped to second place with 38 points. Ittihad moved up to the third position with 29 points.
Shabab are also on 29 points but in fourth position on goal difference. Ittifaq remained fifth with 20 points and Al-Khaleej last with 12 points.
In today’s matches, Al-Qadisiya host Nasr in Dammam and Ahli face Al-Taie at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium here.
