KINGSTON, Jamaica, 19 March 2007 — Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer died in hospital yesterday soon after being found unconscious in his hotel room.
A Pakistan team spokesman told reporters that Woolmer, 58, had died within an hour of being taken to hospital. He said team officials had informed Woolmer’s family in South Africa. The cause of death was not immediately released. Pakistan lost in an upset to Ireland at the Cricket World Cup on Saturday, ending its chances of advancing in the tournament.
Sky Sports reported that Woolmer was found on the floor of his hotel room unconscious and with signs of vomiting at 10.45 a.m. (1545GMT). He was taken to the Kingston University Hospital.
Woolmer was seen late Saturday night, but officials raised the alarm after failing to locate him early yesterday.
