JEDDAH, 28 March 2007 — Al-Ansar club Judokas won the Kingdom’s under-19 Al-Nokhbah Judo Championship held in Riyadh from March 14-15 at the Prince Faisal ibn Fahd Stadium’s indoor hall.

Fifty-two athletes from eight clubs, Al-Shabab, Al-Waseel, Al-Qadisiya, Al-Taie, Al-Jabaleen, Al-Wehda, Al-Ittihad and Al-Ansar took part in the championship.

Al-Ansar placed first with 3 gold medals, 1 silver and 4 bronze. Al-Qadisiya ranked second with 2 gold medals, 3 silver and 1 bronze. Third place went to Al-Ittihad (1 gold medal, 2 silver and 4 bronze), and Al-Taie (1 gold medal, 2 silver and 3 bronze).

In the singles event, Al-Qadisiya placed first with 2 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze. In second place was Al-Ansar with 2 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze.

Third place went to Al-Ittihad with 1 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze. Al-Taie shared third place with Al-Ittihad with 1 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze.

First places in singles went to the following athletes according to weight categories, Abdulmajeed Al-Miaddi of Ansar placed first in the 55kg event, Nadir HAzzazi of Qadisiya in 60kg, Mohammed Fairag of Ittihad in 66kg, Ali Majrashi of Qadisiya in 73kg, Mnawer Al-Shammari of Taie in 81kg, Ibrahim Al-Fraidi of Shabab in 90kg, Abdullah Al-Shunaibar of Sadous in 100kg and Majid Al-Madani of Ansar in the plus 100 kg event.

In the team event, Ansar ranked first, Qadisiya second, and third place was shared by Shabab and Ittihad.

Thirteen referees from all over the Kingdom took part in the championship under the supervision of an international referee.

The President of the Judo Referee Committee Ali Abdulraheem, the Technical Committee Deputy-President Moammar Al-Muammar and Judo Technical Secretary Mohammed Al-Ali oversaw the event.

The Deputy President of the Saudi Arabian Judo and Taekwondo Federation and Shoura Council Member Ahmed Al-Mufreh awarded the players their medals.

He also requested support from his countrymen in the upcoming elections for the position of President of the Asian Federation, which will take place in Kuwait when the Asian Judo Championship kicks off.
