JEDDAH, 10 April 2007 — Said Al-Mouri ruled the two-day Mobily Saudi Star Autocross final round at Durat Al-Arous race track. The event organized by Abdullah Bakhashab Est. for motor sport development drew a large number of racing enthusiasts who pitted skills in a nonstop endurance battle as each tried to score the maximum under the new system of awarding rules.

And when the dust settled it was Al-Mouri, who drove his car to the podium by clocking the best time of 01.29:339 in the Camry challenge stage on the second day.

Talking to media after his well-deserved victory, the overjoyed Al-Mouri said: “I did my best and I’m the winner.”

Prince Khaled ibn Sultan Al-Abdullah Al-Faisal, leader of Al-Faisal Mobily team, ranked third in overall with the time of 01.29:735.

Mansour Al-Qahtani, widely expected to win, piloted his car around the track in a second best time of 01:29:370.

Expressing his happiness over the results, Abdullah Bakhashab, former rally driver and the organizer of the event, said: “I was impressed with their driving.”

Held over weekend, the races attracted huge crowd including women and children who enjoyed watching 24 drivers in the high-speed action at the final round.

The race began after grouping the participants according to their vehicles into seven classes based on the international autocross laws and the capacity of the engine, its power and production year. After the technical test on the first day every driver had to make a free tour through the track. Then the drivers had two trials to collect the best time.

First Group (DS) Omar Hasiki won with a time of 01:36:295 to enter the second stage; Second Group (AS) Jankeez Khan managed to stay top with 01:31:330; Third Group (CS) Saed Al-Mouri prevailed over with a time of 01:26:466; Fourth Group (BS) Maher Khaleel won with a time of 01:26:941; Fifth Group (ES) Omar Al-Amoudi won with a time of 01:39:331; Sixth Group (PA) Prince Khaled ibn Sultan tops with 01:17:315 and in the last group (PB) Anan Rawah was the only driver in that group.

In the last round of Toyota Camry challenge on the second day, the qualified drivers had two trials. Outsmarting his rivals, Said Al-Mouri clinched the championship. It was a thrilling and interesting round where Mansour Al-Qahtani finished second and Prince Khaled third.

This was the final round of Mobily Saudi Star championship. The results were calculated on the times the drivers achieved on their own cars. The top drivers of each of the seven categories had to compete again using two Toyota Camry cars. The ubiquitous Said Al-Mouri, the flamboyant driver, who blazed the tarmac with his stunt-felt driving, won on the Camry.

Mobily was the main sponsor of the event. The other sponsors include Abdul Latif Jameel Co. Ltd. (Toyota Camry), Bison (Abuljadayel Beverages Inc.), Mobil 1 and Al-Bilad newspapers.
