Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ittihad water polo team take on Iran’s Friday Zanjah Ram today in the final of the Asian Water Polo Championship in Kuwait. In yesterday’s semifinals, Friday Zanjah Ram crushed Nift Ghaz while Ittihad outplayed Ahli 10-9 in an all-Saudi semis. Six teams are participating in the championship: Ittihad and Ahli (both Saudi Arabia), Nift Ghaz, Friday Zanjah Ram (both Iran) and hosts Al-Qadisiya and Al-Arabi (both Kuwait). Undefeated Ittihad had earlier won their matches against Friday Zanjah Ram 13-9 and Al-Arabi 14-9. Al-Ahli had lost to Nift Ghaz 3-5 in their first match but turned in a better performance in their 12-9 victory over Al-Qadisiya.

Al-Nokhbah Athletic Championship

The Al-Nokhbah Kingdom Athletic Championships (juveniles) for Clubs will be held on April 11-12 at the Prince Faisal ibn Fahd Stadium, Riyadh. Top 12 athletes have been chosen to compete in the track competitions while 16 athletes compete in the field events all come from 20 clubs. These clubs are Al-Watani, Al-Sogour, Al-Safa, Al-Khaleej, Mudar, Al-Jubail, Okaz, Damk, Al-Nakheel, Al-Ittihad, Al-Ahli, Al-Sawab, Al-Adalah, Al-Tarf, Al-Hilal, Al-Majzal, Al-Sharq, Najran, Radwa and Arar. Twenty officials, under Khalid Al-Soudi, will supervise the championship, which is expected to throw up some keen contests.

Al-Seif Clinch Gold Medal

Mohammed Al-Seif clinched the gold medal on Sunday in the Kingdom Squash Championship held in Riyadh. Players from 12 clubs participated. Al-Seif of Hajar club won his final match against Hilal’s Ahmed Bu Waragah 3-0. After the championship, the Saudi Squash Federation announced the names of the players who will represent the Kingdom in the GCC Squash Championships to be held in Riyadh this month. The squad includes Al-Seif, Tahir Al-Bittayyan in the general category, Ali Al-Saeed, Hussain Al-Seif and Mohammed Buhwaih have been named in the U-17 age group.
