AJMAN, 11 April 2007 — More than 45 trophies were presented on the concluding day of the 6th Annual Sports and Cultural Festival held at the Gulf Medical College (GMC) in Ajman. Participants from 14 leading colleges and universities in the UAE were vying for trophies at the festival, which was held from March 24 to 29.
Chief guest Faizal K.E., president and CEO of Emirates Techno Casting, handed prizes to winners along with guest of honor Thumbay Moideen, founder and president of GMC, Jassim Al-Khaja, general manager of the City Center in Ajman, and Professor Gita Ashok Raj, dean of GMC.
The top prize in cricket went to London City College, Dubai; the top prize in football and basketball (boys) went to the University of Wollongong, Dubai; the top prize in basketball (girls) went to the American University, Sharjah; the top prize in volleyball (boys) went to the University of Sharjah; the top prize in table tennis (boys) and throwball (girls) went to Bits Pilani, Dubai; and the top prize in table tennis (girls) went to MAKE Manipal, Dubai.
A special prize was given to the highest individual scorer in the cricket tournament, who was Osama from Skyline College in Sharjah (108 runs). The man of the match award went to Kashif (68 runs not out one wicket), the best batsman award went to Emad, Preston University (scored 175), the best all-rounder award went to Bilal from Preston University (seven wickets and one hat trick) and the man of the tournament award went to Kashif from LCC (131 runs with three wickets).
