JEDDAH, 11 April 2007 — Jeddah Raceway (JRW) is geared up for the first round of the Castrol Rally Cross 2007 Championship, a competition on a desert (unpaved) course, being held for two days from today.
Organized by Jeddah 4x4 Club, the rally consists of three rounds distributed over the whole year and is held under the supervision of Saudi Motor Vehicle and Motorcycle Sports Committee.
Participants in the rally are Saudi and Gulf Rally champions including Prince Khalid ibn Sultan, Prince Abdulaziz ibn Turki, Fadi Hamada, Ahmad Al-Sabban, Majid Al-Ghamdi, Farooq Ghurab, Abdullah Al-Miri and Essa Al-Dossary.
The race consists of two categories —- the ‘N’ Class, which is exclusive to Rally vehicles certified by the International Rally Association, and the ‘S’ class, which is an open category for sedans of all types.
The qualifying rounds will be staged today and the final race tomorrow with individual time-trials. Winner will be the driver with the lowest track time.
Fans can view the first round of the Castrol Rally Cross 2007 Championship from JRW stands specifically set to cater to the Rally competition and can hold up to 2,000 spectators.
