JEDDAH, 16 April 2007 — IN10SO is organizing an Olympics for private secondary schools at is premises at Serafi Mega Mall from April 21 to 30, with the support of the Toyota Yaris Club of Abdul Latif Jameel Co. and Mobil 1.
There will be competitions in archery, karting, playstation, climbing and bowling.
“We are targeting the secondary students of private schools in Jeddah,” Saudi Rally Champion Abdullah Bakhashab, the organizer of the Olympics, told a media conference on Saturday night.
Bakhashab said the program was aimed at introducing Saudi youth to new sports activities and helping them to enhance their skills in them. They could later become professionals in these sports activities.
Subsequently, qualified teams from various schools will be formed and In10So will provide them all support and advanced training in order to take part in local, regional and international competitions, Bakhashab said.
Mohsin Marzouk Al-Harbi, general supervisor of Jeddah’s private schools, who is the media committee of the tournament, expressed his happiness over the staging of the event and said such programs would definitely benefit the students. “I have no doubt about the success of this tournament and hope similar programs will be organized every year.”
Mohammed Bahassan, PR and event manager at ALJ, said his company decided to sponsor the event in order to enable Saudi youth use their spare time for constructive activities. He hoped that the Olympics would enable them to acquire skills in various activities and wished them and their schools success.
Ten schools will each send 30 students for participation in the qualifying rounds from April 21 to 25. Schools will then select 10 of their best students to represent their respective institutions at the Olympics. Each school will participate in each designated sports activity and they will then be ranked according to the points they collect to determine the finalists. The finals will be held from April 28 to 30.
