Mobily Saudi Super Tennis Championship
JEDDAH — Al-Washm club won the Saudi Super Tennis Championship on Friday after beating Al-Jeel in the team event finale. Omar Al-Thagib outplayed Saleh Al-Rajeh of Jeel 2-1 and Mohammed Al-Hinabi crushed Abdulbari Bourses of Jeel 2-0 for Washm’s victories in the singles event.
Al-Mahrous Fifth in Asian Weightlifting Tilt
JEDDAH, 2 May 2007 — Ramzi Al-Mahrous of the Saudi national team placed fifth in the men’s 94kg category in the 38th Asian Weightlifting Championship held in Tai’an, China. The lifter on Thursday snatched 153kg and 191kg for a total lift of 344kg. First place went to Kyrgyzstan’s Kapaev Rustan with a total lift of 353kg, second to South Korea Lee Hyoung-do (347kg), third to Thailand Suthiphon Watthanakasikam (345kg) and fourth to Iranian Nasirshelal Navab (345kg).
Ittihad U-16 Water Polo Champs
JEDDAH, 2 May 2007 — Al-Ittihad and beat archrivals Al-Ahli 31-11 on Friday to win the Saudi Under-16 Water Polo League. Third place went to Al-Qadisiya and fourth to Al-Safa.
Taekwondo & Fencing Championship
JEDDAH — Under the auspices of North Jeddah Educational Supervision Center, Jeddah’s Al-Anjaal School will organize the first Taekwondo and Fencing Championship in Schools. The event is being held in cooperation with Masters Academy for Fencing and Martial Arts. To start May 6, the championship will have three levels namely fourth grade students and below, fifth and sixth grade students, and intermediate students from governmental, private and international schools. A gold medal, certificate of appreciation, and a master academy membership await the champion, while second and third placers would receive the silver and bronze medal in addition to the certificates. Jeddah to Host 20th Arab Clubs Basketball
JEDDAH, 2 May 2007 — Jeddah will host the 20th Arab Basketball Championship for Clubs from May 10 to 23. Sixteen teams are entered, namely Group A Al-Raja (Morocco), Al-Maktabah (Sudan), Al-Kuwait (Kuwait), Al-Ittihad (Syria); Group B Al-Riyadi (Lebanon), Al-Sharja (UAE), Boufareik (Algeria), Al-Miharraq (Bahrain); Group C Al-Ittihad (Saudi Arabia) Al-Seib (Oman), Al-Hillah (Iraq), Al-Jazeirah (Egypt); Group D Al-Ahli (Saudi Arabia), Al-Yarmouk (Yemen), Al-Qudus (Palestine), and Al-Arabi (Qatar). The delegations are arriving on Sunday. The matches will be played at the Saudi Youth Welfare Indoor Basketball hall and aired on ART channels exclusively.
