JEDDAH, 14 June 2007 — The draw for the AFC final round qualifying for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games made yesterday placed Saudi Arabia in Group C with Japan, Qatar and Vietnam. Iraq, Lebanon, DPR Korea comprise Group A, while Korea Republic, Bahrain, Syria and Uzbekistan are the Group B teams.
Saudi Youth Cagers for GCC Championship
JEDDAH, 14 June 2007 — The Saudi national youth basketball team are preparing for the GCC Basketball Championship for youth to be held in Dubai, UAE from August 19 to 25. A 21-man team will enter training camp in Jeddah starting from July 7. Fourteen out of the 21 will be chosen to play in friendly matches in Turkey starting Aug. 3. After that the team will be pruned down to 12 players for the GCC Championship. The players shorlisted for training are: Hassan Adam, Ahmed Al-Muwwalad, Suwaied Abdullah, Salman Al-Muwwalad, Fouzan Khaleel of (Al-Ahli), Mahir Hawasawi, Ayman Al-Muwwalad, Ameen Abu Salamah (Al-Ansar), Faisal Al-Doussari, Yazeed Al-Dossari, Faihan Al-Qahtani, Hani Al-Mohammed (Al-Hilal), Siraj Abu Swaihel, Mohammed Al-Marwani, Ammar Al-Jizani (Al-Ittihad), Ayoub Al-Hawasawi, Anwar Bilal (Ohoud), Hussam Abu Al-Hims (Al-Qadisiya), Hussam Baghdadi (Al-Wehda), Turki Al-Mihana (Al-Nadha) and Bagir Saad (Al-Fath).
Kingdom Withdraw From FIBA-Asia Tilt
JEDDAH, 14 June 2007 — Saudi Arabia begged off from participation in the 24th FIBA-Asia Men’s Championship to be held in Tokushima, Japan from July 28 to Aug. 5. The Saudi Basketball Federation gave no reason for the withdrawal.
