JEDDAH, 15 June 2007 — Saudi driver Karim Ojjeh is the only Arab participant at the Le Mans 24-hour race taking place in the French City of Le Mans for two days from today.
He is part of the Barazi-Epsilon team, which is supported by Gulf Oil. “I am the only Arab participant in the strongest car endurance race being held on Le Mans track,” Karim said on the eve of his departure to France.
Karim’s participation in this race comes after his team secured second place in the Spanish Valencia race last month.
The team went through numerous tests to determine the extent of leadership abilities of Karim and his team at the race in which the Danish, Juan Barazi and the Dutch, Michael Vergers are taking part as well. The team’s racing car model Zytek 07S with a maximum speed of 320 km/h will be used for the race. It has gone through various tests to ensure its readiness for the world’s toughest and strongest race. The Le Mans race is acknowledged as one of the world’s oldest car events in which drivers drive for 24 hours on the first day and are then replaced, as scheduled by the team manager, until they cross the finish line on the next day. “This kind of races need great endurance capabilities for both the driver and the car in view of the strong competition among the participating teams,” Karim added.
Karim reached the podiums twice with his former team and is now getting ready for another achievement for himself and his team.
