JEDDAH, 25 June 2007 — Saudi discus thrower Sultan Al-Dawoudi reached the qualifying standard for the Beijing Olympics 2008 after throwing the disc to a distance of 63.07 meters and placing second at an international athletics meeting held in Ukraine. Shot putter Sultan Al-Hibshi also qualified with an effort of 19.64 meters in his event. In Finland the Saudi athletes brought further successes when Salim Al-Yami placed first in the 100 meters in 10.84 seconds. Ali Al-Zaki finished second in the 110 hurdles after clocking 14.21 sec. In the 800 meters, Ali Al-Diraan placed second in 1.49.97 sec. Bandar Sharahili also placed first in the 400 meter hurdles finishing in 51. 92 sec while teammate Idrees Hawasawi finished 52.06 to place third.
Table Tennis Training Camp
JEDDAH, 25 June 2007 — The Saudi national table tennis team entered training camp in Riyadh on Saturday. After the Riyadh training that ends on July 9 they will proceed to China for a second training July 10 to Aug. 8 in preparation for the three upcoming competitions namely West Asian Championship for youth in Syria, Arab Cup, and GCC Championship in Qatar.
