JEDDAH, 16 July 2007 — Under the supervision of the Saudi Arabian Swimming Federation, summer swimming courses are being offered in Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam for children aged 5 and above. The fee is SR200 a month. Interested families may register their children either in the morning or the night shift at one of the Saudi Youth Welfare swimming pools spread in the three listed cities where courses are run by professional swimming coaches. According to secretary-general Ali Oun Al-Zayed, “one month has passed and now they started the second month successfully due to the high demand from youth.”
Beach Sports for Jeddah Youth
JEDDAH, 16 July 2007 — The Youth Generation Committee under the umbrella of the Economy Department of the Makkah Province has lined up summer sport activities for youth for the second time this summer. The activities began yesterday and will run through Aug. 10. Last year it was dubbed, “Better Than Before,” and this year, “Life Could Be Better.” These activities, according to Badr Al-Tayyeb, one of the organizers, target the youth from 16 to 29 years old. Beach football, beach basketball, beach volleyball, marathon and motorbike races are on tap. To supervise motorbike events are private companies and the rest of the sports will be handled by professional athletes. Entrance is open for families. The events are being held in the northern Corniche of Jeddah at the old Buhairat Al-Qitar (Train Lake amusement park) area.
‘Summer Sea Meeting’ Activities
JEDDAH, 16 July 2007 — The “Summer Sea Meeting”, which forms part of the, “Jeddah Ger,” (Jeddah Festival), will include various sports at venues in the northern Corniche of Jeddah. This summer Telematch games, basketball and volleyball tournaments ended. Football is to kick off for 14-year-old boys with a prize of SR 3, 000 for the champions and SR 2, 000 for the runners-up. Sixteen teams are entered. Events supervisor Mohammed Makki said fathers and sons get to compete in the pedal boats at 4:30 p.m. today. He added a football league for youth 16 above and played on a soaped ground has been scheduled from Sunday to Tuesday in addition to the cycling race for youth 10 to 15 on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. No entry fee will be charged and slots are still open for cycling race and football on soaped playground.
