RIYADH, 6 August 2007 — Jun Saporsantos, Raymond Alipit and Cesar Rosario were the winners in the FGA (Filipino Golf Association) August Monthly Medal golf tournament on Friday at Reef Golf Course here.
The event followed the first major dubbed Ambassador’s Cup organized by the FGA under a new set of officers led by president Danny Naval. Val Navarro emerged overall winner with 41 Stableford points in the tournament held at the Riyadh Golf Course early last month.
Thirty-eight players participated in the 18-hole strokeplay 50 percent of full handicap event.
Saporsantos shot a net score of 58, three over on the par-55 compact layout, to win Class A (0-8 handicap) honors via the countback over New Zealander Julian Bennet.
Alipit returned the best score of the day of 9-under 46 to take the Class B (9-14) crown with Rene Mercado runner-up on 50.
Rosario likewise won Class C (15-18) in decisive fashion, shooting a 6-under net round of 49. Benjie Marfil was runner-up on 54.
The awards ceremony took place at the Reef clubhouse after the competition.
FGA Secretary Senan G. Angara said the next event on the group’s calendar of activites is Benjie Marfil’s Farewell Tournament on Aug. 10. The second major of the season, FGA Cup, will be held on Sept. 7. Both tournaments will be played at the Riyadh Golf Course.
All FGA members and guests are requested to support these and other events in future, according to Naval.
Besides Naval and Angara the other FGA office bearers are vice-president Rene Mercado, treasurer Cesar Rosario, auditor Ador Laxa, awards and prizes director Zoilo Holganza and tournament directors Alex Arellano and Eric Liquigan.
