The man has been identified as Kaif Mahbub Khalil and his wife as Shajat Begum, also from Bangalore. Khalil works for a company in Dammam. The couple, with an 18-month-old child, was married about three years ago. He brought his wife to Saudi Arabia after the marriage. Begum’s brother lives in Bahrain.

The family went to Bahrain on July 3. Later, the husband returned to Saudi Arabia alone and canceled the family’s residency visas. Begum approached Indian Embassy in Manama and lodged a complaint against Khalil. In the complaint, she said Khalil also made her work and took her salary. Begum and her brother are seeking help from the Indian missions in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
