- Teachers used to complain about low wages that did not exceed SR1,800 a month, while regular private schools set fees of no less than SR20,000 per student.
This is a very big amount compared to the quality of teaching provided. Classes are crowded and schools provide no clean toilets or any sports activities.
There are rumors that fees will increase by SR1,500 despite the fact that the Human Resources Development Fund will contribute half of the teachers’ salaries. Therefore, the increase of school fees is unfair.
Teachers complain they are not receiving their annual leave salaries and their contracts can be terminated at any moment. Let’s take Fawzia Shahrani’s case as an example.
She told a private newspaper that teachers did not feel any sense of job security because of the dominance of the management at private schools. She wondered why the Ministry of Education did not force private schools to fulfill their obligation to staff, in particular, the continuation of summer-leave salaries.
Someone else proposed that the ministry administered salaries instead. In my opinion, the ideal solution is to place teachers under the umbrella of the Ministry of Education.
