The 22-year-old woman needs SR5,000 to be admitted to the hospital for treatment. Her father, Ahmad A., approached Arab News to appeal to philanthropists for help.

A medical source at the hospital told Arab News that such cases came to the hospital frequently these days.

“We treat the critical cases in emergency, regardless of race or nationality,” he said.

He said treatment, which required large sums of money and admission to the hospital, used to be given free of charge, but the hospital was unable to deal with the large number of people seeking free treatment.

The source said the medical insurance regulations had made it imperative on employers to provide medical insurance to their employees and their dependents.

“This particular case was not medically insured, and the family has no money to pay the cost of hospitalization,” he explained.

Commenting on the case, the National Society for Human Rights strongly criticized slackness of employers to ensure welfare of their employees.
