A suspended woman holds no title, as she is not yet divorced and thus not allowed to remarry. Her life is put on hold. Her life relies on a man bargaining while she suffers seeking her freedom.

Khula is the right of a woman in Islam to divorce or separate from her husband. When the husband refuses to grant her a  divorce, the wife can demand Khula. In Khula, she gives up her rights and leaves the union empty handed but some husbands take advantage of the situation and exaggerate the dowry amount that is to be returned. What is a woman in such a predicament to do?

Some women have proposed establishing a special charity fund to assist them in paying their dues. Such a fund can be financed through donations by businessmen and contributions from the community. Most of the cases are of poor women who cannot afford paying the sacrifice. Judges and concerned social affairs authorities can play a pivotal role in solving such cases, which will reflect on our society.

You can imagine the negative influence the problem has on our community, as there have been a rapid increase of Khula cases.

We need to work and put a stop to compensatory divorce transforming into commercial deals.
