A Jeddah court has set a new hearing date in November to review the lawsuit against his detention after the representative from the board did not attend the court session on Tuesday.

Abdullah, who has two wives and four children, said that he was arrested in the village of Al-Hijrah in Baha province on Dec. 22, 2010, and initially put in solitary confinement for five days in Jeddah’s Briman prison, where he had been detained since.

Abdullah said he was proven innocent after the rapist carried out two attacks while he was still behind bars.

A source from Jeddah police, who was representing the force in court, said officers’ role was limited to arresting the man after they linked him to the attacks.

Police detained the man and held him for five days, the court was told. After the fifth day, he was allegedly transferred to the General Prosecution and Investigation Board.

At the investigation board, they kept on extending his detention until he had been held for six months, when another suspect, who has since been charged with the attacks, was arrested, the court heard.

The police representative claimed the lawsuit has no basis as officers did not commit any violation.

Abdullah claimed that during his time in prison, he suffered huge losses to his investments. He has demanded compensation for his pain and suffering.
