- RIYADH: A Saudi lost control over his car when the cruise control system locked at a speed of 180 kph on Qassim highway, Al-Jazirah newspaper reported.
The man, driving a pickup truck, was heading from Riyadh to Qassim in the middle of the night when the cruise control system malfunctioned and locked the car. Highway patrol escorted the car and cleared the road. Two checkpoints were also cleared to open the road for the speeding car.
The car finally stopped when it ran out of gas. A similar incident was reported three weeks ago when a car’s cruise system got stuck at 200 kph. The driver called highway patrol when his brakes failed. Officers were dispatched to clear the road for the out-of-control vehicle. The car sped at that speed with police escort until it ran out of gas.
