- JEDDAH: A gunman was shot dead at a security checkpoint in front of the house of Second Deputy Premier and Interior Minister Prince Naif on the Abdul Rahman Al-Malki Road in Rawdah district of Jeddah at predawn hours on Saturday.
It was the return fire of the security men at the checkpost that killed the unidentified gunman.
Security authorities are investigating the man’s identification and motives, including his links to any terror organization.
“A man carrying a personal gun started firing at the checkpoint after 1 a.m. No security men or citizens present in the location were injured,” spokesman of Jeddah police said in a statement.
According to security sources, the man was making a bid to force his way to the prince’s home.
Remarkably, precisely two years ago on Ramadan 6 according to Hijri calendar (Aug. 28, 2009), a suicide bomber blew up at the home of Assistant Interior Minister for Security Affairs Prince Muhammad bin Naif in Jeddah in an apparent bid to assassinate the prince.
According to earlier reports, a terror outfit called Al-Qaeda in the Land of Two Holy Mosques had plans to assassinate Prince Naif and Prince Muhammad.
