Pereira city officials made the announcement before Ecuador was to play Costa Rica and Nigeria was to face Saudi Arabia in a double-header Saturday at the Hernan Ramirez Villegas stadium.

Police officer Gustavo Londono said the instruments were a nuisance during matches. Some players had complained the vuvuzelas made communication between players difficult.

The noisy vuvuzelas, made infamous at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, have made a comeback at the tournament in Colombia, especially in matches played by the host.

There are no bans yet for other stadiums.
