A legal consultant from the HRC said he expected the suspect to be released on bail soon because there was not enough evidence to hold him.

According to HRC officials, the suspect is in good health and receiving proper care. He was recently transferred from solitary confinement to the general prison, Al-Madinah reported.

Ibrahim Al-Nihayyani, supervisor of the HRC branch in Makkah, said the commission was neutral and not concerned with whether the suspect was guilty or not.

Their main aim was to make sure that rules and regulation were enforced and his dignity protected, the official added.

The General Prosecution and Investigation Board earlier declined the suspect’s request to visit hospital for a medical check up. The HRC intervened and ensured he received treatment.

Omar Al-Kholi, legal adviser to the HRC and professor of law at King Abdulaziz University, said the suspect should be released on bail and slammed officials at Briman prison for holding him in solitary confinement for 60 days.

In an earlier interview, the suspect’s brother accused Jeddah police of falsifying evidence after their failure to nab the real rapist. He said the young girls had denied that the suspect was their attacker.

Previously, eight DNA samples taken from the suspect did not match samples taken from a number of victims. An investigation also revealed that he was in Cairo when two of the victims were attacked.
