JUBAIL: A fire broke out at one of the industrial sites along the Jubail highway yesterday destroying 19 vehicles.
The industrial site belongs to Al-Osais and covers an area of 2,000 sq. meters. The rising flames engulfed a large number of transport vehicles parked at the site.
Civil Defense spokesman Col. Ali Al-Qahtani told Arab News that 12 pickup trucks, five empty diesel tanks, a truck and a bus were gutted in the fire. “Alhamdulillah, there was no loss of life,” he said.
“The blaze was brought under control by Civil Defense, Jubail Emergency Committee (Jama’ah) and Hadeed firefighters,” said Al-Qahtani. An investigation has been launched to find out the exact cause of the blaze.
One of the directors at Al-Osais, Misbah Al-Musabbah, told Arab News that his company was fully geared to fight such fires. “However, this blaze was too big to be controlled in a short time,” he said. “I believe the fire was a result of electrical short circuit.”
Motorists plying the busy Dammam-Jubail highway saw the flames and dense fumes from long distances.
