The Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) has further scaled up its infrastructure with the opening of a new AED500 million 27,011 KV plant with transmission and distribution command centers.

DEWA's new Warsan Complex and Al-Qusais Control Centre was opened on Wednesday by Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE minister of finance and deputy ruler of Dubai.

"DEWA's projects are the life, essence and backbone of Dubai's infrastructure. DEWA provides world-class services at the highest levels of reliability, quality and best international practices and technologies, to ensure the continuity of electricity and water services and achieve sustainable development in the UAE," Sheikh Hamdan said after the opening.

"The Warsan Complex is a significant addition to DEWA's facilities, which is line with the 'Green Economy for Sustainable Development' vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE vice president and prime minister, and ruler of Dubai," said Saeed Mohammed Al-Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA.

"Through the new center, we are further driving our goal of achieving the highest possible quality, efficiency, and sustainability standards that fulfills our vision to becoming a world-class sustainable utility, while also supporting the socio-economic growth of Dubai," he continued

"The Control Centre at Warsan will play a key role in the strategic, economic and industrial expansion zones of Dubai by ensuring power supply continuity through Dubai networks in coordination with adjacent Emirates," Al-Tayer added.

"Warsan Complex spreads over 650,159 sq ft, and includes two transmission and distribution control centres, and a 430,630 sq ft administrative building capable of accommodating up to 2,350 employees, among other facilities," he said.

The Warsan Complex features two control centers. The first controls power generation and transmission of the 132/400 kV networks. The center controls and manages power generation in coordination with Jebel Ali Power Station. The second control center monitors and manages the networks to maintain continual improvement.
