DUBAI: Two men sustained medium to serious injuries when a private helicopter crashed while taking off from the Palm Island in Dubai, news agency WAM reported.

The wounded were airlifted to Rashid Hospital.

Police sources said the helicopter crashed before noon while taking off from Atlantis on the Palm Jumeirah.

No official from Atlantis was available for comment.

Authorities are investigating to determine the cause of the accident.

The accident caused heavy traffic jams on the Palm.
