KARACHI: Pakistani stocks ended slightly lower on profit-taking in oil, banking and cement stocks, traders said.
The benchmark 100-share index of the Karachi Stock Exchange closed 0.02 percent down, or 6.25 points, at 36,222.63.
“The market witnessed range-bound activity after rallying for eight consecutive sessions,” said Samar Iqbal, vice president at Topline Securities Pvt Ltd, adding oil, banking and cement sector stocks fell on profit-taking.
Cement stock Maple Leaf Cement Factory Ltd. fell 1.17 percent to 77.50 rupees, while Lucky Cement Ltd. lost 0.9 percent to 564.20 rupees.
Pakistan State Oil Company Ltd. declined 0.6 percent to 382 rupees, and among banking stocks, United Bank Ltd. fell 1.08 percent to 184 rupees.
Pak Suzuki Motor Co. closed up 5 percent after it reported robust earnings for the June quarter. Sui Southern Gas Co. Ltd. and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd. each rallied by around 5 percent after the government announced a hike in natural gas tariffs.
The rupee was steady at 101.78/101.73 against the dollar, compared with Thursday’s close of 101.79/101.84.
Overnight rates in the money market remained flat at 7 percent.
