A huge tug of war was going on between the bulls and bears at Saudi stock market last week but it ended in a standoff as the market retreated all the way to 7,178.1 points, which was roughly where it started the week.

Saudi Arabia's benchmark Tadawul All-Share Index (TASI) added less than a half point for the entire week, wavering in a range of 90 points. Total market capitalization of Saudi stock exchange remained nearly unchanged from its previous level of SR 1.47 trillion.

Among market cap indices only Large cap went slightly downward for the week.

Ten out of Tadawul's 15 sectors finished to the upside, accumulating 879 points for the week. While, five sectors witnessed a negative change, trimming 355 points collectively.

Media and Publishing sector delivered a largely positive performance last week, soaring up 7.56 percent and crossing 3,000-mark. Tourism and Insurance sectors followed it, advancing 3.42 percent and 1.3 percent respectively.

On the other hand, Transport sector showed the worst performance, slipping 5.3 percent or 275 points and trimming back the 5,000-mark.

Heavyweights performed in a mixed fashion. The Saudi Electricity Co. and SABB played well relatively, closing the week up by 1.79 percent and 0.60 percent respectively.

On the negative side, Saudi Arabia Fertilizers Co. and Saudi Telecom Co. played worst rest of the heavyweight peers, going down by 3.47 percent and 1.52 percent respectively.

Weekly market breadth was favorable, as the total number of rising stocks exceeded to the total number of falling stocks by a margin of 82 to 63 and the prices of 12 companies remained unchanged.

Tihama Advertising & Public Relations Co. and Sanad Insurance showed the best performance among all Saudi equities, topping the weekly gainers chart with a positive change of 25.59 percent and 24.45 percent respectively.

Furthermore, upside-downside volume ratio of 1.3:1 remained positive. Emaar the Economic City and Knowledge Economic City remained significant advancers among the most active stocks, moving up by 4.17 percent and 3.24 percent respectively.

Most of the major benchmark indices at GCC stock markets ended the week in green, with Dubai Financial Market rose nearly two percent and recovering from previous week’s losses.

The benchmark GulfBase GCC General Index closed the week higher at 4,136.80 points level, adding 21.43 points or 0.52 percent for the entire week.
