VIENNA: Venezuelan Energy Minister Rafael Ramirez expects OPEC to rollover its output ceiling when the oil cartel meets later this week, he said.
“I have a feeling we are expecting to have another rollover,” Ramirez said upon his arrival in the Austrian capital, two days before Wednesday’s gathering.
The Organization for Petroleum Exporting Countries, whose dozen member nations together supply about one third of the world’s crude, is forecast by analysts to maintain, or rollover, its daily output ceiling at 30 million barrels of oil.
OPEC, which groups together nations from the Middle East, Africa and Latin America, is set to stick by its output ceiling as supply tensions linked to global crises help keep crude prices high, analysts say.
Brent crude rose, surpassing $110 a barrel for the first time in June and US crude rose also as strong Chinese and US data pointed to healthy economic growth and higher demand for oil from the world’s top two consumers.
Brent rose by $1.35 a barrel to $109.96 by 11:43 a.m. EDT, after settling down 18 cents and declining 0.7 percent last week. US oil rose by $1.52 to $104.18 a barrel, after reaching an earlier a high of $104.24.
Members of OPEC, which pumps a third of the world’s oil, are happy with oil prices and producing enough to cover most of their budget needs.
