The Saudi stock market saw a significant setback on Monday, passing through a lean session of 0.76 percent.

Saudi Arabia's benchmark stock index (TASI) fell to 9,019.98 points, showing a further reduction of 68.7 points for the entire day. The index making lower support levels plunged to a maximum of 117 points during the session.

All Market cap indices logged a negative change, with Large cap falling 0.9 percent on Monday.

Top ten large caps finished to the downside, with Samba Financial Group dipping by 1.36 percent, market leader SABIC (Saudi Basic Industries Corp.) 1.31 percent and Saudi telecom 1.21 percent.

Most of the sector indices ended negatively, trimming an aggregate of 694 points.

Real estate development sector had fallen prey to profit-taking after two consecutive days of sharp run-ups, slipping nearly 80 points or 1.37 percent. The sector index finished at 5,763.17 points, still posting a year-to-date gains of 1,000 points or 21 percent.

Construction and Petrochemical Industries were other declining sectors, going down by 1.31 percent and 1.04 percent respectively.

On the positive side, retail sector rose 0.54 percent to close at 13,594.75.

The total number of falling stocks exceeded to the total number of rising stocks by a huge margin of 125 to 27.

Saudi Airlines Catering Co. suffered worst of all Saudi companies, decreasing 3.86 percent for the day to SR143.5.

While, WAFA Insurance (+9.89 percent) and Knowledge Economic City (+8.64 percent) showing notable gains became the top performers.

Tadawul volume went slightly up and traded 360 million shares as compared to previous day’s 335 million shares. The volume also surpassed 50-day average level by more than 50 percent.

Only Saudi Kayan Petrochemical Company turned green among most active stocks, liquidating 56.6 million shares and contributing a relative market share of 15.7 percent.
