The General Department of Traffic (GDT) and Najm company for insurance services recently launched a joint traffic awareness campaign under the theme “For Safer Roads,” which aims to encourage and sensitize road users, especially motorists, to abide by traffic laws and bring about behavior change.

The multimedia campaign launched in Arabic, English and Urdu, targets the diverse cultural and language backgrounds of road users in Saudi Arabia.

The campaign focuses on the destructive effects of using mobiles while driving, speeding and reckless driving.

The campaign stresses the importance of wearing a seat belt to mitigate the severity and impact of injury in case of accidents.

Gen. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Bassami, director of the GDT, said the campaign is a road-safety outreach program, emphasizing the fact that road safety is a shared responsibility that requires cooperation between the GDT, government and private stakeholders and society to take full interest in promoting road-safety awareness.

Fahad bin Ibrahim Al-Akeel, CEO of Najm, said: “The campaign stems from Najm’s social responsibility toward the Kingdom and its citizens and residents. Through this campaign, we aim to foster road-safety knowledge and instill important road-safety behavior.”

Al-Akeel appreciated the efforts taken by the Ministry of Interior to reduce road accidents and improve traffic safety standards in the Kingdom, welcoming their support for the campaign, which will have a great impact on its success.

The campaign will also introduce road-safety education through workshops in schools and universities across the Kingdom, in addition to mall activities.

Najm covers 31 cities around the Kingdom with approximately 1,716 employees and a localization rate of 92 percent of its workforce. It seeks to achieve traffic safety for road users and reduce accidents through an integrated system providing innovative services to the widest range of citizens, residents and visitors.
