It was very sad to learn about the death of a young Indian nurse in Al-Kharj after being hit by the car driven by a 14-year-old boy. In normal circumstances, it would not have been a clear-cut case of rash driving. However, as the car was being driven by a 14-year-old who must not be having a valid driving license, the benefit of doubt cannot be given to the driver. The parents or the owner of the car who allowed the boy to drive it should also be held responsible and punished.
I have heard about a tragic accident last week in Jubail in which two Indian teenagers died as they could not control the speed of the brand new car that their father allowed them to take out on the main roads for a trial run. Although, one can sympathize with the grieving father, yet it was his own folly in allowing his children to play with the car without realizing the potential risks for them and others.
There is a real menace or danger in allowing the teenage boys to take vehicles out on the roads and it must be curbed by all means. — Safi H. Jannaty, Dammam
