Fateh, promoted to the Saudi Premier League a few years ago, is now on top of that league. To everyone’s surprise it won over Hilal and Shabab both in their hometown in Riyadh. Fateh caught Shabab by surprise and beat them 4-2 in the fifth round of the league and became the No. 1 team with 13 points and 2 points advantage over second-ranked Ittihad.
Fateh proved that although fame and money can be advantageous and intimidating, it isn’t everything. With an adequate budget and tons of eagerness, Fateh outstripped everyone else to reach the top despite the undeserved cold shoulder treatment from the media.
While other big-market teams busied themselves with TV shows and press conferences, Fateh and its management focused on their goal to emerge as the unexpected darkhorse of the season. What a sweet revenge from last year’s King’s Cup final in which the referee had a hand in having Fateh booted from the semifinal.
When football lovers around the country branded Fateh as the model team, it must have helped in motivating them because they now truly deserve that label. They are also a good inspiration to other teams including their home rivals Hajar which are, incidentally, becoming tougher team as well.
Finally, I take my hat off to all the team members, coach and management of Fateh for a very impressive stint. Whether they remain in that position for long or not, is beyond the point. The moral of the story is that, with focus and hard work, it can be done!
