Acting Health Minister Mohammed Al-Sheikh honored a female Saudi security guard of a Tabuk hospital on Sunday for saving the lives of seven patients following a massive fire in the hospital.
Al-Sheikh, who was on his first day as health minister, received the woman, Widad Al-Atwi, along with her father at his office in Riyadh and gave her a cash award of SR50,000 and a certificate of appreciation.
Despite the heavy smoke that engulfed the hospital ward, the woman worked relentlessly to evacuate the patients, until she fell unconscious due to severe exhaustion that led to her being hospitalized for a few days.
The woman and her father were given first class air tickets to reach Riyadh to attend the honoring ceremony, while ministry officials received them at the airport and were given five-star accommodation in the city.
The minister promised Al-Atwi that she would be given a permanent job as a contract worker of a security company. Some of the patients evacuated by Al-Atwi from the women’s ward of the hospital were in their seventies.
