Suspected perpetrators of a human trafficking ring have been arrested by the Investigation & Public Prosecution Bureau in Riyadh. Among them are Saudis, other Arab nationals and Asians.
The Riyadh governorate has asked the competent authorities to crack down on suspected recruitment agencies involved in the crimes.
The bureau is going ahead with investigations on human trafficking, which takes place with the support of some suspicious recruitment agencies. Under Saudi law, human trafficking is punishable with up to 15 years in prison and a fine of not less than SR 1 million.
Al-Watan daily reported that some suspected recruitment agents have recently been arrested by the bureau and would be taken to court.
The Arabic daily added that investigators acquitted some suspects for lack of evidence.
