I was surprised and disturbed to hear the remarks by West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s against the prime minister. While addressing a crowd in her state she said: “I have met the prime minister 10 times. I cannot do more than this. Shall I go and beat (him up)?” These are the words of the chief minister.
She said she had met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh several times to protest against fertilizer price hike but to no avail, and she could not do anymore. The chief minister threatened to “take the fight for Bengal to the streets of Delhi” if the federal government did not respond to her demand for a three-year moratorium on repayment of past debts and interest on them.
All her claims are debatable and can be discussed and solved in a democratic way as per the law and constitution, she has the right to demand for that, but the way she spoke was undemocratic and impolite which is not suitable for a person like Banerjee who is holding a prestigious position to talk in such a rude way against Prime Minster Manmohan Singh who is a gentleman with high standards of morality and patience. — Zakaria Sultan, Riyadh
