The Jeddah Chamber of Commerce will continue its objections to the decision of the Ministry of Labor to raise fees on expat workers with legitimate means, said Saleh Kamel, the chairman of JCCI, adding that the Jeddah Center for Law and Arbitration has been charged with the task of preparing a list of the violations of the decision.
He said that the JCCI is coordinating with other chambers to dispatch a delegation to the Royal Court to express their views of the negative effects of the decision on all sectors.
"We hope that officials reconsider the decision. The JCCI submitted a report to the crown prince stating all negative consequences of the decision. We wrote to the minister of interior, Makkah governor, and the minister of labor as well," the JCCI chairman said.
He pointed out that the JCCI does not work against the Ministry of Labor, but serves to defend the interests of businessmen, as this decision is damaging to small investors. He said the new fees will add a new burden on the private sector which will result in higher prices for many products.
“We will defend the interests of merchants, industrialists and SMEs (the latter constitute 90 percent of JCCI members) and other members as well,” the chairman said.
