This is in response to the article “Muslims need to choose their battles carefully” by Aijaz Zaka Syed. I agree with the writer’s point of view that Muslims need to be selective in their approach.
But every time an issue against the sentiments of Muslims is raised we find the entire Muslims community in a roar. Though their approach is not acceptable and may vary, this is the case in majority. A Muslim irrespective of whether he follows the principles of Islam sincerely or not gets his blood boiled when an issue is raised against his faith.
The only positive outlook we can take from the violent Muslim protests is “We love our religion and cannot bear a drop of insult against it.” As rightly pointed out by the writer, Muslims need to follow the approach of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in reacting to such instances which calls for peace and nonviolence. By being violent they are literally going against the noble teachings and setting up wrong examples. — Tasneem Ataulla, By e-mail
