This is with reference to the article “Love thy neighbor” (Dec. 13) by Harun Yahya. The article mainly refers to the ties between Turkey and Greece but truth of the matter is that the ideas expressed therein can be applied on any country in the world. The problem is nobody thinks on those lines anymore.
It is not just the political dynamics that are to be blamed but there is another factor that plays a key role in deciding the nature of ties between two countries. It is economic gains and major corporations dictate the economic policies. These corporations work behind the scenes.
The reason behind the sorry state of global affairs is the separation of religion from politics. Religion gives a touch of morality to every aspect of one’s life. Without those moral principles, politics has become a vicious game in which the idea of “survival of the fittest” can be seen at play. It is all about making gains at the expense of others. If anybody is still under the illusion that post 9/11 the US acted to defend itself from any future terrorist strike, that person is living in a fool’s paradise or his understanding of the global politics is based on flawed ideas or he is too naïve to believe whatever comes his way through the media.
Anyway, that is another debate. It is heartening to note that Turkey is making giant strides in effectively becoming a powerful country in the comity of nations. The continuous success of Erdogan’s party in Turkish politics points toward a shift in the attitudes of the Turkish people. It has become clear that Turkish people are devout Muslims and are supporting an Islamic-leaning party. On the other hand, Erdogan’s party has proved its mettle and showed to the world that being “Islamist” does not mean being supportive of the deviant ideology that is wreaking havoc on the region. — Naveed Hashmi, Riyadh
