Unemployment has become a global phenomenon. I feel that our preferences and mindset also contribute to this problem. It is the herd mentality that is responsible for many of our economic woes. We should understand that a society is not only dependent on doctors, engineers or bankers. The stigma attached to blue-collar jobs is also a big reason to worry. People in our part of the world only prefer white-collar jobs. There are many professions and trades, which are necessary for the development of a country. There are some major and basic flaws in our overall education system that need to be addressed to effectively tackle unemployment. Secondly, we should also encourage the youth to establish their own small businesses so as to reduce the ever-increasing pressure on the private and public job sectors. — Waqas Shahid, Dammam
