India’s secularism

It is always saddening to read about hatred and violence in the world. The report “Saffron terror targets Muslims hosted by compassionate Hindu” (April 26) falls in the category of reports, which disturbs me mentally. As a matter of fact, such behaviors would upset any sane person following any faith of the world. There was no need to create unnecessary brouhaha. Unfortunately, the people at the helm of affairs in the world’s largest democracy want the division of the country along communal lines. The election of the communal elements is a great tragedy in the history of modern-day India. The incident shows that the feelings of hatred are gradually pervading the Indian society.

Although incidents of this nature are not new, it is the communal elements — who are running the show — that should be a great source of concern. Indians should insist on their country’s secular ideals and take every possible measure for the protection of the India’s secularism.

The strength of India lies in its diversity. The saffron brigade wants Hinduization of India, which will not bode well for the country. — Zafar Ahmed, Riyadh
